This is what self care feels like
— Jadine J. at the Refresh & Renew Retreat in D.C.

Planning a retreat singlehandedly is hard work. All of the time you spend sending emails, researching venues, pricing tickets, booking flights, and everything in between take a toll.

Thankfully, I was lucky to land a venue sponsor at Yoga Heights DC where I led the retreat in their beautiful studio. The staff was even kind enough to provide candles to make the space feel cozy and intimate as I accentuated the room with roses. But between decorating and last minute touches, things didn't go perfectly according to plan.

Nonetheless, there always comes a moment in the midst where you're reassured that every ounce of worry and hustle was worth it.

And in complete honesty,  I can't pinpoint only one moment from the Refresh & Renew Retreat. There were too many moments to count.

I can remember my eyes brimming with tears as we shared quotes from letters that affirmed our struggle, our fight, our being. I can reflect on seeing kinship form between strangers as they encouraged and supported one another through challenges of vulnerability and physical strength. I can remember sitting in a gratitude circle, feeling the weight of our thankfulness for one another and the space we created.

I can remember it all but I can't seem to put it all into words... Maybe that's because the night was beyond anything I could have envisioned. It was everything we needed and more than we hoped.

I am thankful to the 7 bold, vulnerable, courageous women who shared their hearts with me that night. I'm thankful that did more than yoga and writing exercises... and I hope it pray that it carries you into the New Year feeling lighter... feeling free.
